Topic: About Sal Trapani
Sal Trapani is a director, writer and composer whose work has been seen at venues throughout the United States and Europe including the Minetta Lane (Raft of the Medusa), Lucile Lortel, Circle Rep, Westside Theatre, Circle in the Square, Kaufman Theatre, Irish Arts Center, Merkin Concert Hall, La Mama, Etc., Lincoln Center, Playwright's Horizons, Hudson Guild, 52nd St. Project, Intar, EST, New Dramatists, the John Drew Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, the Powerhouse (LA), the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, the Williamstown Theatre Festival and the Holland Festival.

Original Projects:

He adapted, directed and composed the music for Macbeth 2000-A Multi-Media Rock Opera which played at the Theatre Row Theatre and then traveled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Other productions seen at Edinburgh include ENEMY: Project Ibsen, his multi-media adaptation of Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, Antigone's Last Dance - A Dance Rock Opera, A Trip to the Farm, an interactive children's musical and FOOD - Sixteen Course Musical.  In 2005 Sal's creation, Twelfth Night - The 1960's San Francisco Psychedelic Musical, was a smash hit at the Edinburgh Fringe.  It played to packed houses at the Gilded Balloon Teviot Debating Hall.  It subsequently traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador as part of a cultural exchange mission.

His unproduced work includes Dante 911 - A New Media Opera and  Orpheus - Journey to Light a musical interpretation of the Orpheus myth.  He is currently working on an adaptation of the Oresteia.

Sal has worked at the Williamstown Theatre Festival for seven seasons, the last six working with the Greylock Theatre Project which is a theatre mentoring program wherein at-risk children write plays that are performed by professional actors.

For six seasons he was Associate Artistic Directior of the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and ran the Invitational Writers Workshop that developed eight new plays over the course of a month.

Sal has also worked on collaborative projects with artists in other disciplines. He collaborated with pianist Anthony DeMare on Playing With, an innovative music theatre piece that combines contemporary music with song, text, dance and video that has toured internationally. He also collaborated with choreographer Donald Byrd and created the text for ...concerning vices, circumstances and situations, performed at La Mama, Etc., designed by Eric Fischl.

Member of Circle East Theatre Company, the Greylock Project and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. He is currently Professor and Chair of  the Theatre Department in the new created School of Visual and Performing Arts at Western Connecticut State University.
